As a freelance writer and journalist I spend a lot of my time online doing research. One of the things I have noted in recent months is just how divided the people of this country seem to be. On one side of the issues we have the “haves”. Many people I have talked to find this subculture to be quite interesting and somewhat oxymoronic. Self-declared conservative Christians, who make up most of the “haves”, say that they believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ, yet they hold conservative values. Although these do involve family values, which I must admit seem very Christian, their social and political views seem far from the mark. Taking care of oneself economically, and buying your way politically isn’t something many people believe Jesus would condone. They hold firm to their opinion that Jesus wouldn’t want people to be so close minded and bigoted. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe that all people, even in a subgroup, can be put in the same box; however it has been my experience that the general consensus among this group leans in this direction. The extreme side of this group is even more enigmatic to my logic. Jesus taught that in order to get into heaven one must help the poor and except those who are different. Didn’t Jesus himself protect a known prostitute from being stoned to death? Yet in today’s day and age, these conservative Christians seem to be the first ones to cast stones. I also believe that Jesus, supposing he had a political stance, would have been more of a socialist. Try even using that word in front of a conservative and you may be in trouble. If you are one of those people who think socialism is a dirty word then I recommend you try looking the word up in your dictionary. On the other side of the spectrum you have your liberals. I don’t choose to include a religious connotation because it seems there may be a much wider variety of belief systems inherent in this particular socio-political group. Liberals, although somewhat non-Christian in name, seem to hold more closely to the spirit of Christianity in what they try to accomplish. Helping out those who are less fortunate, and accepting people, for who they are, seems to be the center of their socio-political dealings. They seem to believe that all people have the right to lead happy and productive lives, in the way that the individual sees fit. Most people do not believe it should be the job of the government to allocate Category:Home › Other • Pomegranates: A newly discovered superfood • Where did the joke why did the chicken cross the road come from and why is it funny? • Can mothers diagnosed with bipolar disorder make good parents? • Spiritual evolution of human consciousness • Tips for getting a college basketball scholarship • Living with Pseudotumor cerebri (PTC) • Caring for the caregiver • Technologys impact on society
